Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him
Just came back from church after the memorial service for Pope John Paul II. The churches of the Archdiocese of Singapore were together in prayer at the same time, praying for the repose of his soul. It was a pretty moving service I think, as Father preached about how he had used 'love' to preach God's message.
As Father Mike had said in his homily, there are people who keep criticising that he is out of touch with the world, too backward and too conservative. Yet, millions around the world mourn his death, Catholic and non-Catholic alike. His works have been and will be reported extensively over the span of these few days but the one thing about him that remained constant was his attitude of love. At the start of his papacy, he preached love. At the end of his life, he maintained that position; "It is love that converts hearts and gives peace".
As we pray for his soul, let us remember the message that His Holiness fervently spreads. And let us remember that the source of love is God Himself, and it is he who can bring peace, convert hearts and give us rest.
"May the choirs of angels come to greet you
May they speed you to paradise
May the Lord enfold you in His mercy
May you find eternal life"
